Ostrobothnian Museum is the historical museum of the City of Vaasa and it also functions as a region museum and regional art museum. Ostrobothnian Museum is also a museum of natural science.
Ostrobothnian Museum collects, examines and preserves the material and visual cultural heritage of the region and oversees and maintains the historical remains, the constructed cultural environment and the natural heritage of the area. Through exhibitions and other activities the museum seeks to promote knowledge regarding culture, visual art and the natural environment. The heart of the museum is the museum building, designed by Eino Forsman in 1927, and the museum’s exhibition wing, planned by architect Erik Kråkström in 1967. The museum is situated next to the Marianpuisto park in central Vaasa, at the address Museonkatu 3.

The museum card is a common ticket to the Finnish museums and it allows you to visit more than 230 museums in different parts of Finland. The museum card is valid for one year beginning from the first day of use and during the year the museums can be visited several times.
With the museum card entry to the Vaasa city museums: Tikanoja Art Museum, Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art, Ostrobothnian Museum and Terranova and the Museum of Old Vaasa. Entry to the museums during the opening hours.
Valid for visits to The Ostrobothnian Museum and Terranova, The Tikanoja Art Museum, Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art and The Museum of Old Vaasa during one day.
Payment can be made in cash or with a bank/credit card (Visa, Visa Electron; MasterCard). Admission fees can also be paid using Smartum culture vouchers and TyKy fitness vouchers.
The discount admission fee of 5 € is valid for students, senior citizens, those in military or non-military service, teachers, visual artists and the unemployed.
Free admission is granted to war veterans (including female “lottas”), war invalids, therapy groups, assistants to the disabled, ICOM cardholders, and members of Ostrobothnia’s Historical Museum Association. Free admission is also given to those who hold a valid membership card of the Artists' Association of Finland or the Association of Finnish Sculptors or a journalist’s “PRESS” card. Teachers who arrange museum visits are also granted free admission, provided they hold a Trade Union of Education membership card.
The museum offers guided tours in Finnish, Swedish and English, both of the permanent exhibitions and of the temporary exhibitions. Guided tours must be booked in advance through the museum information desk. Maximum group size is 15 people. The cost of a guided tour during museum opening hours is 30 € on Tue-Fri and 50 € on Sat-Sun and holidays.
Tailored guided tours can also be provided. The arrangements for a tailored tour must always be made and booked in advance by telephone (06 325 3800) or by email (firstname.lastname@example.org). The cost of a tailored tour ranges from 60 to 100€, depending on its theme, content and length. Tailored tours can also be provided in English.
In addition, the museum regularly arranges free guided tours for the general public.
